Located in Fairlee, Vermont is a hidden gem of a resort. Lake Morey Resort is a lakeside destination that is popular year round. For us, we were excited to visit in the winter months. We visited Lake Morey over February Vacation with their ice skating trail being our main focus.
We arrived late morning on a Friday after our stay at the Von Trapp Lodge in Stowe Vermont. We were able to check in early. Our room was on the smaller side, but it had everything we needed, including a small fridge, which we have not had in other hotels recently.
The view from our room was beautiful.
We were excited to strap on our skates. Most years they do a four plus mile track around the lake. With this years weather being unpredictable they only did a half mile loop, a smaller loop and some skating rinks. With the winter having various temperatures the ice was bumpy, but still amazing to be out on.
After a couple hours of skating we took a break and enjoyed the pool and sauna.
The front desk had an array of board games for their guests. We played a couple games and enjoyed the view.
After some relaxing time inside we headed back out on the ice for more skating. This was the last day they were maintaining the trail. We lucked out that we got to enjoy ice. They do have skate rentals and serve warm drinks during most of the winter. Make sure you check their Facebook Page before you go.
There are not a lot of dinner options in the area so we chose to stay at the hotel. Reservations were strongly recommended. We were a little hesitant to eat at the hotel because we have not had great experiences with hotel restaurants lately. We were seatied by the window with a beautiful view of the lake.
Our waitress was very friendly and personable. We were pleasantly surprised with our meal, everything was so fresh and flavorful that it restored our hope in hotel restaurants.
After dinner we spent the rest of the evening in our room as we were exhausted from the several hours of skating. We checked out the next morning to head home. Overall, we loved our stay at Lake Morey. The staff were one of the friendliest of the places we have stayed. The scenery was beautiful. The hotel itself was neat and clean. The ice skating trail and rink were the best part of the whole stay. Some weekends they do have hockey tournaments or ice fishing tournaments so you may want to do some research before you go.
