Fall Day Trip around Central Massachusetts

It was a beautiful fall day and we had a few hours to do some exploring and decided to take a little drive around Central Massachusetts with a small itinerary.

Mount Wachusett: Our first stop was a drive up Mount Wachusett in Princeton, Massachusetts. We accessed the Auto Road from from Wachusett Mountain State Reservation at 345 Mountain Road. We observed several trail heads and hiking trails at different locations around the mountain. We did not have time to hike, so we drove up the auto road. There is a small fee to drive up, but we felt it was worth it. It took us about 10-15 minutes to drive to the top. Once at the top, there is a small pond that had Koi Fish in it.

There is a fire tower that you can climb up, but due to long lines and wait times we chose to skip the fire tower and enjoy the views around the summit. We spent about 30 minutes walking around the summit, enjoying the views.

Stone Cow Brewery: Our next stop was Stone Cow Brewery located on West Street in Barre, Massachusetts. The Brewery has something for everyone. There was BBQ, a large brewery, farm animals, playground, farm store and beautiful views.

My husband enjoyed a beer and we enjoyed walking around the property. I will now lie, I loved the animals.

Red Apple Farm: Located on Highland Ave in Phillipston, Massachusetts is Red Apple Farm. This is a large farm with apple and pumpkin picking, farm store, large brewery, wagon rides, a variety of food stands and a few farm animals. We went to get wood fire pizza and it was so good. My daughter had a cheese pizza and my husband and I shared a Buffalo Chicken Pizza. I’m still drooling over this pizza.

We walked around the farm and I was tempted and bought a pickle on a stick. It was good.

Exploring Mt Wachusett, a couple local farms and having some great food was a perfect way to spend a fall Saturday afternoon.
