Rhode Island is one of our favorite states to visit. We had the opportunity over Labor Day Weekend to do a day trip to Rhode Island. Below is how we spent the day.
Blithwold Mansion and Gardens located in Bristol Rhode Island is a 33 acre summer estate set on the Narragansett Bay. For a fee you can explore the mansion and beautiful grounds of this estate. They provide a map and point out different points of interest. We first did a self tour of mansion. There were staff around to answer any questions you had. The mansion was beautiful with stunning views of the bay.
Around the grounds were large sculptures of birds, which were pretty cool to see.
We walked down by the bay to take in the views.
Lastly we explored the gardens. There was bamboo to walk through and many different flowers and plants to explore. We spent about an hour and half exploring the grounds.
Mother Pizzeria located in downtown Newport is one of our favorite restaurants. We discovered this Pizzeria on our last overnight in Newport. Since it was the middle of the afternoon we were able to get seated right away. We started out with fresh oysters. These are some of the best we have had in New England.
Next was pizza. We got a Margarita Pizza and like a Mexican Street Corn Pizza, that also had zucchini on it. It was so good.
Lastly was gelato. They drizzle it with sea salt and olive oil, delish.
Next we drove along the ocean and stopped at Kings Beach. I wanted to stop at Gooseberry Beach, but since we were not staying long I did not want to pay the $30 fee to get in. Kings Beach was not much of a beach, mostly just a bunch of rock outcroppings and some grass areas. We did see a couple people swimming.
On our drive back to New Hampshire we made a final stop at Federal Hill in Providence. This is an Italian neighborhood with restaurants and shops. The road through the main area was closed down to traffic. We walked around the main street. There is a cute fountain in the center of a large eating area.
There was a lot of outdoor dining and shops to explore. We stopped at Scialo Bros Bakery for some delicious pastries.
That wrapped up our day trip to Rhode Island. For a small state there is so much to explore. I cannot wait until our next trip to this beautiful state.
