Manchester, Vermont has become a favorite place to visit. The beautiful landscape and quaint downtown area provides something for everything. This past winter we hiked to Freedlyville Quarry. Todays visit was a different agenda.
Hildene The Lincoln Family Home: The home of President Lincoln’s son Robert is a must visit if you are in the area. From the beautiful home, stunning gardens and views, adorable goat farm and impressive Pullman Train Car there is so much to see here. There are trails for walking this expansive grounds. If you don’t feel like walking there is a golf cart that brings visitors around to the different point of interests. We spent a little over two hours exploring the grounds.
Downtown Manchester: The downtown area has a variety of shops and restaurants. It’s such a cute area to wander around. My favorite was the little park next to a dam. We saw a sign that they are planning on creating a river walk, which will be beautiful.
Dorset Quarry: After all the walking around we were hot and wanted to swim. We discovered Dorset Quarry last summer and it has become a favorite place to rock jumping and swim. Since our last visit they have become more strict with charging a fee, signing a waiver and the parking lot closed at 6pm. It is still one of our favorite swimming holes.
Unfortunately our favorite restaurants were closed as were many others on a Monday. This was disappointing as one of the things we love about Vermont is the food and craft beers. We ended up grabbing something quick on the way home.
Next time we visit Manchester the following places are on our list to visit:
Drive up Mt. Equinox
Equinox Hotel
Past Time Pinball
Explore local hiking trails and waterfalls.
If you get the chance to visit Manchester, Vermont I highly recommend it. I know we will continue to visit this charming area.
