We are lucky in New Hampshire to have an abundance of places to go swimming. From ocean beaches, to beautiful lakes to cold mountain streams. With having so many great places to swim it was hard to narrow down my favorites, but below are my top five places to swim in New Hampshire. Remember to always use caution when swimming as currents can be strong and dangerous.
Franconia Falls: Located in Lincoln Woods off the Kancamagus Highway is a trail to access Franconia Falls. This is not an easy swimming hole to access, but if you are up to the over three mile hike it is worth it. There are falls and pools to swim in. For those who are brave, a natural waterslide. The water here can be dangerous depending on currents so please use caution if you decide to make the trek in to Franconia Falls.
Georgiana and Harvard Falls: Located in Lincoln this one requires a little bit of a moderate hike to access. With variety of pools to swim in, waterfalls to climb under, a cool mountain stream and beautiful views it is a perfect place to get in a hike and enjoy a refreshing dip.
Upper and Lower Ammonoosuc Falls: Located at the base of Mt. Washington is a set of falls that are fun to jump off the rocks and swim around the pools. Unfortunately if we have had a dry summer the falls and pools can dry up making it not swimmable. When there is enough water this a favorite spot of my daughters.
Wallis Sands State Park: Located in Rye this is my favorite New Hampshire ocean beach. It is a smaller beach, but has great sand, fun waves and overall a beautiful ocean beach. There are changing rooms which is always nice at a beach. The parking lot can fill up fast, so I recommend reserving a spot in advance.
Wellington State Park: Located on the shores of Newfound Lake in Bristol is one of my favorite state parks in New Hampshire because of Newfound Lake. This is one of the cleanest, deepest lakes in New Hampshire and I love swimming in its clean water. Wellington State Park provides a nice long beach to be able to spend the day enjoying the lake alone with picnic tables, restrooms and changing areas. I also recommend reserving a spot in advance as the park can fill up.
