If you have been following my blog or social media you know I love Vermont. We had not taken a day trip to Vermont in a while so on a recent vacation we spent one day exploring the southern region of the Green Mountain State. Below is how we spent our day.
Since we were leaving from our home in the Monadnock Region, we started the day by stopping for a late breakfast in Keene, New Hampshire. Brewbakers has become a favorite breakfast stop. It can be very busy, we visited late morning and luckily go served quickly. My husband got the farmers plate with a cold brew, my daughter an açaí bowl with a lemonade and I a Veggie Hash and green tea with lavender. We all split a donut. As always our food was fresh and flavorful and the staff were friendly and prompt.
Next stop was Wilmington, Vermont. This is such a quaint Vermont town with an adorable downtown area. My main reason for visiting was this is home to Vermont Bowl Company. This company makes beautiful wooden bowls and other items.
After exploring around the two sections of the store I finally choose a cutting board and two smaller bowls. I was in my happy place with all the beautiful creations. If anyone wants to get a beautiful gift this is a great store.
I was a little nervous on how to care for them, but the staff provided me clear instructions. I have already used them and am very happy with my purchase.
Next stop was Pike Falls to do some swimming and rock jumping. Located on Pikes Falls Road, a dirt road, in Jamaica is the trail to Pike Falls. There is no designated parking area, you park on the side on the road and there are a couple trails leading into the falls. It is about a quarter of a mile hike down to the falls, where there is a small pool, rocks to lay on and jump off from and falls to enjoy.
It was a lot of fun jumping off the rocks. There is also another falls and more shallow pool a little further up. Then it is private property.
We spent a couple hours playing on rocks, swimming in pools, sitting under waterfalls and swimming.
Next, I wanted to check out another swimming hole. Scott Covered Bridge is located on the West River in Townshend. There is parking along State Forest Road and on the other side of the river on Route 30. There is a rocky shoreline. As well as a rope swing.
It is mostly calm water for floating and swimming. We also saw some kayakers. A very beautiful area.
That was a wrap on our day in Southern Vermont. One of my favorite things of the day was we ended up taking a lot of back roads allowing us to see some beautiful country side. As always a very enjoyable and relaxing day.
