New Hampshire Beach Day
It was mid September, a bluebird day and warm. I was not ready to give up summer yet and wanted one more beach day. Living in Southern New Hampshire we have a wide variety of beaches we can go to. Within a two hours radius we can be at beaches in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. We decided to stick with a New Hampshire Beach as I wanted to get in a walk and some time on the sand.
We parked at North Hampton State Beach, where there is a small fee. We started out by taking a walk on Little Boar’s Head Scenic Walk. Which is a path that goes 1.5 miles from North Hampton State Beach almost to Bass Beach in Rye. The walking path follows a mostly paved path with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the beautiful homes lining Route 1A on the other.
It was so peaceful walking this path taking in the beautiful ocean views, the ocean breeze and the stunning homes. We saw others walking, running and bike riding.
We ended up walking a little past the end of the path on the side of the road until we hit two miles.
If you are looking for a side trip on your walk, I highly recommend stopping at Fuller Gardens which is about a quarter of a mile off the path. It is such a beautiful garden. We made our way back to North Hampton Beach while basking in the ocean views.
As soon as we got back to North Hampton Beach I could not wait to jump into the ocean to cool off. It was nice that they have a clean restroom and changing area. The parking lot is steps to the beach. Despite it being mid September the ocean did not feel too cold and I dove right in. I was able to enjoy the waves and do some floating.
We spend another hours just laying on the beach and enjoying the warm sunny day.
On my list of foods to try has been Fluffy Chowder. This is a clam chowder with chunks of lobster meat on top. This delicacy is found at Rye Harbor Lobster Pound, a little shack in Rye Harbor. They are open until Columbus Day, weather dependent. You can park for free for 30 minutes in the harbor. There was a little line, but we didn’t wait too long. My husband got a lobster bisque and I got the fluffy chowder. Next door was Rye Seafood Company, which was serving raw freshly shucked oysters, my husband’s favorite. He picked up a half dozen of them. We took our food back to North Hampton State Beach to have a little picnic.
The food was so good. It was fresh and flavorful. I highly recommend the fluffy chowder. It was so fun eating looking out over the ocean. It was the perfect way to end our New Hampshire Beach day.
