Fire Tower Challenge

For the last couple of years my husband, daughter and I have been trying to finish the Fire Tower Challenge. You visit five out of the sixteen fire towers in New Hampshire. For the last couple years we would visit two towers and then lose motivation or get side tracked and not finish. Well this fall I was determined to finish the challenge. I am happy to report we did finish it. We started in September and ended it in November 2019. Below are the fire towers we visited.

Pitcher Mountain was our first fire tower. It’s an easy hike with a rewarding view.

Mt. Kearsarge was the second tower we visited. Thanks to the auto road were able to do this tower the same day we did Pitcher Mountain. For the little effort we did the views were amazing. I would say similar to views from Mt. Monadnock.

Federal Hill Fire Tower was the third tower we visited. This tower is not too far from our house. With less than a half mile to the top, it is a quick walk to the tower. Making this an easy one for us to check off the list.

Pawtuckaway Fire Tower was the fourth fire tower we visited. This trail was steep and short, but provided some great views.

Warner Hill Fire Tower was out fifth and final fire tower of the challenge. We visited it because it was only 30 minutes away from Pawtuckaway. This was a nice fire tower, but there is no hike to it and not much of a view. If you like climbing up fire towers and you are in the Derry area, it is worth checking our.

I really enjoyed doing this challenge with my family. It got us to different parts of the state that we do not usually visit. The majority of the views from the top of the towers were pretty great. I liked that there was a variety of towers we could visit.
